Bondi Eye Doctors, part of the Clearsight Group are excited to offer a rare opportunity for an experienced Orthoptist to step into our established Clinical Lead position for the first time.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a highly respected and modern ophthalmology practice, taking on a well-rounded leadership role within a supportive, collaborative, and patient-focused environment.
Bondi Eye Doctors is home to 8 Ophthalmologists and a highly skilled multidisciplinary team, servicing all areas of ophthalmology including cornea, cataract, refractive, retinal, glaucoma, paediatric, neuro-ophthalmology, and oculoplastics.

About the Role
We are seeking a motivated and experienced Clinical Lead to join our friendly and dedicated team.
This role combines hands-on clinical work with leadership responsibilities, making it ideal for someone who enjoys mentoring others, building strong professional relationships, and helping drive clinical excellence and operational efficiency.
Working closely with our doctors, management team, industry representatives, and referrers, you will play an integral role in supporting both the clinical team and the ongoing growth of the practice.
Regular working hours are generally between 7:45am – 5:00pm Monday to Friday, depending on Ophthalmologist schedules, with occasional flexibility for late night and weekends.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Lead Responsibilities
- Lead, support, and mentor the clinical team
- Coordinate training and professional development of staff
- Manage clinical rostering and workflow
- Oversee daily clinic flow and operational efficiency
- Maintain equipment servicing and compliance logs
- Liaise with industry representatives and external company contacts
- Build and maintain strong relationships with referring Optometrists and GPs
- Assist with administrative and operational projects as required
- Contribute to the ongoing quality, growth, and success of the practice
- Foster positive collaboration across the team and with doctors
Orthoptist Responsibilities
- Conduct patient consultations and assessments
- Perform specialised ophthalmic testing using advanced diagnostic equipment including:
- Slit Lamp
- Phoropter
- IOL Master 700
- Zeiss OCT
- Humphrey Visual Field
- Pentacam
- iTrace
- Assist in minor surgical procedures including retinal and oculoplastic procedures
- Provide pre-operative and post-operative patient care
- Perform intraocular lens calculations and surgical list preparation
- Triage patients appropriately
- Participate in audits and research projects
- Undertake instrument sterilisation and infection control procedures
- Support the wider team with administrative duties as needed
About You
We are looking for someone who is clinically confident, approachable, proactive, and passionate about both patient care and team leadership.
You will ideally have:
- A formal qualification in Orthoptics
- Registration with the Australian Orthoptic Board (or willingness to obtain)
- Previous experience working in a multi-sub-speciality ophthalmology practice
- Leadership or senior Orthoptist experience (highly regarded)
- Experience with electronic medical record systems (Genie experience advantageous)
- Excellent organisational and time management skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- The ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively
- High attention to detail and professionalism
- Sound computer literacy
- A current Working with Children Check (or willingness to obtain)
- A National Police Check
- Unrestricted Australian working rights
