MetWest Eye Centre is a state-of-the-art ophthalmic facility located in the heart of Blacktown, dedicated to providing exceptional care across a range of eye specialties. Specialising in Cataract, glaucoma, retina, cornea, Neuro Ophthalmology and oculoplastic. We offer a comprehensive and patient-focused approach to diagnosis, management, and treatment. Our purpose-built consulting rooms are equipped with the latest diagnostic technology, ensuring we deliver the highest standard of care. We are co-located with an accredited onsite day hospital ensuring all our patient’s eye care needs can be addressed locally.
The Opportunity
MetWest Eye Centre is seeking a Permanent part-time Orthoptist for a 12-month Maternity Cover position starting late October/early November 2026 and / or ongoing Casual Orthoptist to join our team of skilled clinical and administrative professionals working alongside nine consulting ophthalmologists. Each day offers variety, with opportunities to work across different subspecialties.
Key Responsibilities
Taking comprehensive patient histories and performing visual assessments, including visual acuity, refraction, ocular motility and cover testing
Performing intraocular pressure measurement, visual field testing, OCT and Optos imaging
Performing biometry, intraocular lens calculations and corneal tomography
Assisting ophthalmologists with intravitreal injections and minor procedures
Working collaboratively with the ophthalmologists and administrative team to ensure the efficient operation of the clinic
Preparing and coordinating operating theatre lists
Undertaking other clinical and administrative duties as required
Qualifications & Requirements
Bachelor of Applied Science in Orthoptics or Master of Orthoptics is required
Experience preferred but not essential
Healthcare worker vaccinations required
Valid Working with Children Check (WWCC) required
