Hillside Cataract and Eye Specialists is looking for an Orthoptist to join our new and growing practice.
We are a small, close-knit team focused on delivering high-quality, personalised patient care. Our practice has two ophthalmologists with a focus on cataract surgery, medical retina, glaucoma and general ophthalmology.
As a new practice, this is an opportunity for an orthoptist to play an important role in shaping the clinic as it grows. We are open to new ideas and value people who are willing to take initiative, contribute to the team and help us develop systems and processes that support excellent patient care.
We are looking for someone who is warm, approachable and genuinely enjoys working with patients. We also value candidates with integrity, a strong work ethic and a commitment to being a reliable and supportive member of our team.
At this stage we require an orthoptist on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, although as the practice grows this has the potential to develop into a full time role.
The Role
Your duties will include, but are not limited to:
– Taking comprehensive patient histories and performing visual assessments, including visual acuity, refraction, ocular motility and cover testing
– Performing intraocular pressure measurement, visual field testing, OCT and retinal imaging
– Performing biometry, intraocular lens calculations and corneal tomography
– Providing pre-operative and post-operative patient care, education and counselling
– Assisting ophthalmologists with intravitreal injections and minor procedures
– Preparing and coordinating operating theatre lists
– Assisting with medical instrument sterilisation and preparation of clinical areas
– Liaising with hospitals, optometrists, GPs and other healthcare providers
– Assisting with reception duties, patient billing and surgical bookings when required
– Contributing to the smooth day-to-day running of the practice, including ordering office and medical supplies
– Assisting with the preparation, typing and checking of medical correspondence
– Working collaboratively with the ophthalmologists and administrative team to ensure the efficient operation of the clinic
– Contributing to the development and refinement of clinical systems, processes and workflows as the practice continues to grow
– Undertaking other clinical and administrative duties as required

– Working with Children’s Check and National Police Check (or willingness to obtain)
– Orthoptics degree or equivalent
Previous experience is preferred, however, we are open to considering a new graduate who demonstrates the right attitude, work ethic and interpersonal qualities, and who is genuinely motivated to learn and develop.
