About us
Southern Ophthalmology, part of the Clearsight Group is a leading, modern high-volume ophthalmology practice located across three locations in Kogarah, Miranda and Wollongong. This role will be based in Kogarah and Miranda, with approximately 1-2 sessions per month in Wollongong. The Southern Ophthalmology team consists of a highly skilled clinical team, where we deliver comprehensive care across cornea, cataract, refractive, retina, paediatrics, glaucoma, and neuro-ophthalmology.

About the role
Not a standard Orthoptist role – genuine variety, support, and career growth.
We are seeking an Orthoptist who is ready to step into a dynamic, high-performing ophthalmology environment where clinical expertise, teamwork, and patient care are genuinely valued.
You will work under the guidance of a Clinical Lead, alongside ophthalmologists and a dedicated clinical and administrative team. This role offers strong support, high clinical variety, and exposure to complex case mixes across multiple subspecialties.
Working Hours
Full time role based on 38 hours per week
Monday to Friday only
No weekends or public holidays
Clinic hours are generally 8:00am – 5:00pm, aligned with ophthalmologist schedules, with some flexibility for 7:45 am starts or 5:30 pm finishes
What You’ll Be Doing
Your scope will include (but is not limited to):
* Patient consultation, assessment, and clinical workups
* Use of advanced ophthalmic equipment including:
Slit lamp, IOL Master 700, Zeiss OCT, Humphrey Visual Field, Pentacam, Optos, Specular Microscope
* Running and supporting clinical-led clinics, including Refractive
Assisting with minor surgical procedures, including retinal and oculoplastic work
* Pre-operative and post-operative patient care
* Intraocular lens calculations
* Patient triage
* Participation in auditing and research projects
* Medical instrument sterilisation
* Other administrative and clinical duties as required
About You
You are an experienced Orthoptist who brings confidence, professionalism, and strong clinical judgement to your work.
You will have:
* Some experience as an Orthoptist is preferred, ideally in a multidisciplinary or ophthalmology setting. New grads are welcome to apply
* Registration with the Australian Orthoptic Board
* Experience using electronic medical record systems (VIP.net experience highly regarded)
* Excellent time management with strong attention to detail
* Ability to work autonomously while thriving in a structured, team-based environment
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills
* High level of professionalism and patient-centred care
* Sound computer literacy
A current (or willingness to obtain):
* National Police Check
* Working with Children Check
