Senior Orthoptist / Clinical Coordinator
Description
Senior Orthoptist / Clinical Coordinator
Lambton, Newcastle | Full time | No weekend work
A leadership opportunity is available in a well-established ophthalmic practice with a strong focus on general ophthalmology and medical retina. This role offers a professional mix of clinical care, patient interaction, and clinical coordination within a small, efficient, and supportive team.
Our practice is based in Lambton, Newcastle, and consists of two ophthalmologists and an experienced clinical team. We perform a high volume of procedures including intravitreal injections, cataract surgery, eyelid surgery, minor plastics, and pterygium surgery.
About the role:
As the Orthoptist, you will act as the senior clinical coordinator, working closely with one other highly experienced staff member. The role includes comprehensive patient assessments including visual acuity, intraocular pressure, visual fields, retinal photography, corneal topography, A-scans, and use of the IOL Master. You will assist with intravitreal injections and minor procedures, perform cataract workups, assist with retinal, capsular, and iris laser procedures, and provide pre- and post-operative cataract care.
Clinical coordination responsibilities include preparation of surgical lists, organisation of intraocular lenses, liaison with the hospital, and ensuring smooth and efficient clinic flow.
About you:
You will be professional, organised, and proactive, with strong communication skills and a positive approach to teamwork. You enjoy responsibility, work efficiently, and take pride in delivering high-quality patient care.
Our patient population is predominantly elderly, so a calm, warm, and patient-centred manner is essential. As the practice is fully paperless, confidence with computers and clinical software is required. Teaching and professional development are supported, with opportunities to expand skills over time.
Why join us:
You will be joining a close-knit team of five staff members at any one time, fostering a collegial and supportive working environment. The clinic is well equipped with modern ophthalmic technology, and staff input to improve workflow and patient care is encouraged.
We have an emphasis on having a shared skilled team which helps support a healthy work–life balance with annual leave requirements.
The position is full time, 8.30 am to 4.30 pm, with no weekend work and based at a single site only.
