The Role
Macquarie University Health is seeking an Orthoptist to join our world-renowned team of specialists in the Ophthalmology clinic.
In this role, you will provide exceptional clinical support to our clinicians as well as ability to work across all specialities within the clinic including retinal, glaucoma, corneal, paediatrics, neuro-ophthalmology and oculoplastics. We are seeking a skilled and motivated professional with expertise in advanced diagnostic imaging techniques in ophthalmology. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a small, dynamic team environment. Membership with the Australian Orthoptic Board is preferred.
Key responsibilities for this position include:
- Performing patient screenings and workups including but not limited to: History taking, visual acuity, refractive assessments, IOP measurements, OCT scans (Cirrus and Heidelberg), visual field assessments, fundus photography, fluorescein and ICG angiograms, ocular movements and assisting minor operations.
- Management of patients and patient flow throughout the clinic.
- Ensuring appropriate testing is performed for patient conditions.
- Counselling of patients.

About You
You will be a passionate and professional individual with a commitment to delivering the highest standard of evidence-based clinical practice for the ophthalmologists and their patients. Your a motivated individual who is keen to develop further skills in a patient focused environment. You will have appropriate graduate qualifications Bachelor's Degree of Applied Sciences (Orthoptics) or equivalent with eligibility for registration with the Australian Orthoptic Board.

To be considered for this position, you will demonstrate the below requirements in your CV and a 1-2 page cover letter:
- Bachelor's Degree of Applied Sciences (Orthoptics) or equivalent
- Demonstrated knowledge of orthoptic screenings and workups as well as ophthalmic diagnostic imaging
- Express motivation and willingness to develop further skills
- Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills, with an ability to collaborate and engage with healthcare stakeholders
- Ability to prioritise and manage workloads within established routines, methods and procedures
- Ability to work within a multidisciplinary healthcare team to provide high quality patient care
- Capacity for creativity and innovation in service development, delivery and improvement
